I Am Safe — a short calm-down practice
A free, standalone relaxation exercise. Nothing to buy, no signup, and everything you need is on this page.
The I Am Safe affirmations
Find a comfortable position. Read these slowly, either out loud or silently. There is no wrong pace.
I am safe.
I am calm.
I am grounded in the present moment.
My mind is clear.
My thoughts are gentle.
I release what no longer serves me.
Every breath I take brings me peace.
I am enough just as I am.
If one line stands out to you, stay with it. Repeat it for a few breaths before moving on — or let it be the only one you use today.
A simple breathing companion
Affirmations work well alongside slow breathing. Try this pattern while you read:
- Breathe in gently through your nose for a count of four.
- Hold — loosely, without strain — for a count of four.
- Breathe out slowly through your mouth for a count of six.
- Repeat four to six times, letting your shoulders drop a little more on each exhale.
That's the whole practice. Two minutes is enough. Longer is fine too.
When to use this
- Before bed, to slow the day down.
- Before something nervous-making — a call, a meeting, a journey.
- After difficult news, as a first step back to steadiness.
- Any moment you notice your thoughts running ahead of you.
Listen while you practice (optional)
If you'd like calm piano music to accompany the practice, the affirmations above come from a short video, I Am Safe — Calming Affirmations with Healing Piano Music by Lomholt-Thomsen Music.
